During the 1996 Olympic games, the hand readers were used to protect access to the Olympic village. More than 65,000 people where enrolled and over 1 million transactions were handled in the 28 days. Over 900 readers were installed to control client and employee access to special areas in Italian banks and another 100 were installed in Russia for similar functions. The readers also play an important role in the United States airport with a program called INSPASS for border control. Other applications include, the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons and United Kingdom's Prisons rely on it for prisoner tracking, as well as hospitals, universities, drug dispensaries, clubs, day care centers, and many more.
